Long Description

This book contains 27 double page practice tests, which fall into two categories: skill building practice tests, and mixed question practice tests.

21 Skill-Building Practice Tests
These pages are designed to help children work through one (or two similar) Verbal Reasoning skills at a time. The tests begin with simple, easy to access questions, illustrative of question types found in the Eleven Plus test and move on to more complex versions of the questions to facilitate progress within each test. Each skill section begins with an explanation box which exemplifies the skills required in that test. The majority of questions also have a practice question completed as an example (marked P. in each section).

Each practice test is worth up to 22 marks and subtotals are shown for each section. Answer formats range from multiple choice (circling or underlining a correct answer from a choice), to written responses and matching pair type questions. The tests are designed to be done in approximately 10 minutes although these can take longer while skills are being developed.

6 Mixed Question Practice Tests
These pages contain a variety of question types which are grouped into small sections worth up to 5 marks. Each mixed question practice test is worth up to 20 marks. This part of the book is designed to test a range of skills within one test. In these tests, all questions are towards the more complex level. There is no explanation of skills but example answers are shown for most types of question.

‘Pass marks’ for the 11 Plus vary between areas and are compiled and standardised in various ways. As a general rule, children answering most questions correctly (20+/22, 17+/20, 4/5 and 8+/10) within 10 minutes are working at around the standard of the test. If your child scores below this, return to the practice sections to revisit skills requiring improvement. If your child doesn’t manage to finish the test in around 10 minutes then working on speed and familiarity with question types will aid their progress.

Answer Pages
At the back of the book, you will find a comprehensive answer section, which gives fully explained answers to each question.
